To own a dog is a responsibility not to be undertaken lightly.

The Basenji is probably closer to the wild dog of the jungle and the desert than any other domestic breed, which makes him unique in the world of dogs. He is a natural hunter with the ability to make the best use of sight scent and sound, all of which tends to have its disadvantages.

Although he is extremely intelligent, his strongly developed hunting instincts can be his undoing. He is willful, mischievous and has a most "catlike " spirit of independence.

However, to the dog-lover who has the patience and tolerance to really understand the Basenji, he can be the most affectionate, lovable family companion.

He is easily house-trained, fastidiously clean, and will greet each and every member of the family with equal enthusiasm on their return to the house.

The Basenji is independent  hound, who needs  exercise, either in his own safe yard or by taking walks on a lead. A Basenji who is left alone all day will soon become bored and can cause damage. If you think a Basenji can just roam the streets all day, coming home at meal times

THEN YOU ARE  NOT SUITABLE FOR A BASENJI

If you are a person, who has a yard with fences, with patience to train a dog which has a mind of its own, and TIME to be a pal to him.............

THEN YOU ARE SUITABLE FOR A BASENJI

BASENJIS ARE NOT THE RIGHT DOG FOR EVERYONE

They are unique and have a personality all of their own

And are quite different from other breeds
